Since 1946, Salisbury Summer School has been working with boys and girls entering grades 7-12 who are striving toward important educational milestones in their academic careers. Salisbury Summer School offers small classes and individualized attention to help students reach those goals. Whether students are preparing to enter high school, transitioning to independent/boarding school, entering into the college process, wishing to learn English in an authentic, traditional American boarding school setting or simply wanting to improve their overall approach to learning, Salisbury School is an ideal boarding school summer program to prepare students for their next step. Our faculty members use a structured curriculum to help students become effective learners while also making that experience enjoyable and rewarding.
Our traditional academic program focuses on reading and English composition. Students read and write every day, think critically, engage actively and improve skills and confidence over the five-week boarding school summer program. Our other foundational class entitled Critical Reading and Executive Skills, or CRES, is a content-based class in which students apply a variety of study skills including the Cornell note-taking system and build vocabulary skills that will help improve performance in class and on standardized tests.
Our boarding school’s summer program offers several additional classes including: math, English as a Second Language (ESL) for young scholars from other countries wishing to study in the United States and an optional course in SAT/SSAT preparation to complement content and instruction that we include within our current curricula. Elective courses include: Environmental Science, Public Speaking and Creative Writing. Private one-on-one tutoring is also available at an additional cost.
Each afternoon we offer a wide variety of athletic programs including, tennis, soccer, ultimate Frisbee, squash, fitness, golf, swimming, yoga, art and music in addition to many other offerings. Throughout the summer, students and teachers compete together in an all-school competition known as Champion’s League to determine who will be awarded Lord Sarum’s Cup at the end of the summer. Weekend travel to cultural attractions have included nearby Boston and Newport as well as Connecticut and Rhode Island beaches, complementing the academic, athletic and extracurricular offerings.
Is your student ready for the next step on his or her educational journey? Spend five weeks with our summer boarding school program and help your child find success.

“I have come to believe that classrooms, playing fields, and the outdoors provide places where young people can work together with adults to create learning cultures that at once value attention to fundamental basics and encourage creativity in reading, thought, written expression, and problem solving. And such an atmosphere is what legions of students have found throughout the years at Salisbury Summer School. I am thrilled to now be a part of that rich tradition and cannot wait to welcome the Salisbury Summer School Class of 2018.”
