Academics at the Salisbury Summer SchoolWhile many schools offer study skills and reading courses, only Salisbury immerses students in a curriculum and academic environment carefully structured to promote better organization and improved reading and writing. Minimizing distractions and maximizing student-teacher contact with a 4:1 ratio, we employ experienced teachers from many schools, who also serve as academic advisors and dorm monitors. A small number of highly motivated college undergraduates planning careers in education assist with classes and other important duties in dorm life and recreational activities. All our students become part of a five week academic program in which teachers often get to know them more thoroughly than during an eight month school year. At the conclusion of the summer session, faculty advisors prepare detailed reports on all students’ progress in each course with specific recommendations for the future.
Upon prior arrangement with the director, we will continue to offer make-up credit in English. A new feature of Salisbury Summer School is our make-up credit in Math program which allows selected students to study additional math and receive an appropriate academic credit in Algebra or Geometry upon successful completion of assigned work. In addition, we are expanding our English, Second Language offerings (ESL) for a limited number of international scholars wishing to study in the United States. We also allow students who live locally to attend as day students if that is their wish.
